A good luck spell uses the law of mentalism and correspondance to work. This means that a true "spell" is a combination of a mental predisposition and a external object that helps materialize that vision. We use "spells" all the time, if you want to have a baby and you buy the first toy you are going to give him when he is born, this kind of anticipation and overt attitude towards having a specific outcome is a spell.
When a strong mental vision is paired with an equally strong "physical affirmation", then the universe works to materialize such thing. There are certain elements that just naturally resonate with our subconscious mind and help to bring within us the power to make things happen. Green for instance is a color that is naturally associated with "wealth and prosperity", if we use this color when affirming or visualizing our intention for abundance then a strong image is impressed upon our subconscious mind that in turn influences the subtle energies behind the fabric of reality.
